MARLBORO- Two Florida residents traveling west on Route 9 were killed Friday afternoon after the Can Am Spider motorcycle they were riding left the roadway, and collided with trees near the Marlboro town highway garage.

The operator of the three-wheeled motorcycle, John Brown,73, of Clermont, FL, and his passenger, Leona Miller, 72, of Grove City, FL, were part-time residents of Fremont, NH.

According to police, Brown and Miller were traveling west when the motorcycle left the south side of the roadway between the town garage and Town Hill Road and traversed a downgrade before crashing into several trees. Miller was ejected from the motorcycle into the woods while Brown was able to crawl to the roadside to summon help. A passerby stopped to provide aid until Rescue Inc. arrived on scene. Police say that Miller was found lifeless in the woods and pronounced dead at the scene. While en route to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, Brown’s condition deteriorated rapidly, and he was pronounced dead.

While the crash is still under investigation, police say there was no evidence of intoxication, excessive speed, or another vehicle being involved. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information related to the crash is asked to contact Trooper Daniel Bennett at the Brattleboro State Police Barracks (802) 254-2382. The accident occured at approximately 3:20 pm.

Marlboro Fire Department provided traffic control assistance with alternating one-way traffic while the state police conducted their investigation.
