READSBORO– The fifth annual Hoot, Toot and Whistle 5K Snowshoe Race and Hike will be held on Saturday, January 19.

The race begins at 10 am with registration from 8:30 am until 9:45 am at the Readsboro Central School, Phelps Avenue (turn at the bandstand). A bus will transport participants to the Whitingham Reservoir start line and meet them at the end of the trail to return them to the school.

The course is a very gentle grade single track on the Catamount Trail (longest cross-country ski and snowshoe trail in North America that travels some 300 miles from Readsboro to Canada) along the Deerfield River on the historic Hoot, Toot and Whistle (Hoosac Tunnel and Wilmington) narrow gauge railbed.

Participants must use snowshoes with a surface area of at least 120 square inches. The cost is $15, day of only; and older and under 18 are free. For directions and information visit or call Bob Dion at (802) 423-7537. Limited snowshoe rentals will be available. All proceeds will benefit the E.J. Bullock Building Restoration Fund, Readsboro Hometown Redevelopment Inc.
