DOVER- The idea, the time, and the place all lined up perfectly for Michele Cassese. In less than two months Michele, her husband Barry, and her mother-in-law have turned a plain, two-room office above First Trax into a homey yet glamorous nail spa in Mountain Park Plaza.
Cassese was involved in the nail salon business for more than 20 years in her native Long Island, NY. Now a full-time resident of Dover, Cassese has spent the last five years substitute teaching and volunteering at Dover School. With her three sons getting older, Cassese felt like going back to something that she thoroughly enjoys. “I wanted to go back to my trade, and I’m happy to be back in the business,” said Cassese.
With no nail salon in the Deerfield Valley, Cassese saw a perfect chance to bring a new, fresh, and needed business to the area, and Michele’s Nail Spa was born. Michele’s offers manicures and pedicures for women and men as well as artificial nails, gel acrylic nail polishes, gel polish, and waxing for men and women. Nail treatments run from classic manicures for $15 midweek and $25 weekend, to silk wraps from $50 midweek and $60 weekend. Pedicures range from $35 to $45, and waxing from $8 to $60.
Michelle’s does not have official hours yet as the salon just opened on November 22. Cassese says instead that she’s open seven days a week whenever you need her. Cassese says she first wants to seek out and feel out the needs of individual customers, such as their work schedules and weekly appointments, but walk-ins are always welcome.
Michelle’s nail salon was designed with a focus on personal service, and when the customer walks in, the décor reinforces that. The wallpaper is a calming grey with black outlines of roses, while a shining chandelier sits above the desk where Cassese works on nails. All of the décor was brought together by Cassese and her mother-in-law Judith Reidel, an interior designer.
