SPAE is in its sixth summer. The program, managed by Leland & Gray Players director Ann Landenberger and Players assistant producer Abby Wicker, is directed by Kauffeld, Leland & Gray, ‘09, and Johnny Pozzi, ‘ 10. Maddi Etman, ’13, is assistant director and Patrick Hauer, Jesse Cannella, Rachael Turner, Nina Singleton, Nathaniel vanOsdol, Sam Turner, and Tino Benson are counselors in training. Workshop leaders include camp staff as well as Leland & Gray music director Ron Kelley; Bread and Puppet puppeteer Cate Kelley; Cassidy Anderson, ’11; Sarah Dickson, ’12, and Amanda Wirth, ’14.
The SPAE 2013 production is “James and the Giant Peach,” adapted from Roald Dahl’s story by Kauffeld, a recent music education graduate of the University of Vermont, and Pozzi, a junior in Fordham University’s acting conservatory in Manhattan.
Direction has been led by Pozzi and Kauffeld and shared by all staff. Wicker is leading the costume crew; Kauffeld and Pozzi lead design, concept, and projections; and all campers have assisted with various aspects of production.
The performance incorporates skills in voice, design, lighting, music, sound, movement, and production that have been introduced in the program.
Participants include past SPAE-ers, Adam Culver, Aiden McCormack, Andrew Tolbert, Ellie Longo, Fairen Stark, Fox Pickering, Gabrel Vanni-Phillips, Hattie Colligan, Julia Assogba-Slowik, Julia Gleason, Kenny Cashman, Maggie Adams, Max Spicer, Nicholas Tolbert, Rebekah Winot, Sage Hall, Sam Thibault and Zoie Brooks, joined by new participants Alex Urbaska, Alice Coyne, Alison Stockwell, Anastasia Stevens, Anna Cate Harrison, Brennan Garry, Christian Cannella, Finley Forester, Georgia Cheney, Jared Jones, Jessop Burrow, John Butler, Karlie Sanborne, Lucia Cheney, Oscar Forester, Siena Sperling, Skye Richardson, Veronica Stevens, and Vinny Ferrizzi .
Their show will be presented Friday, August 2, at 7 pm and Saturday, August 3, at 5 pm, in the Dutton Gymnasium on Route 30.
