We were fortunate on Saturday, May 11, to have approximately two hours of “rain free” weather as we completed the fourth annual “Spring into Health 5K” run and walk for Grace Cottage Hospital. Spectators enjoyed cheering on the over 150 runners and walkers, an all-time record for this event.
We would like to thank the many organizations and individuals who helped keep the event safe and fun. Among those were the Windham County Sheriff’s Department, Rescue Inc. and their bicycle EMT crew, Townshend Community Emergency Response Team, and the West River Valley Masons Group. Drew’s All Natural provided delicious salsa and tasty salad dressing which we gave away after the event to many of the participants. Cota and Cota provided bottled water and travel cups at the finish line as well. Vermont maple syrup (provided by Charlie and Barbara Marchant and Diane and Ed Smith) was awarded to the fastest male and female runners and walkers. We also greatly appreciated help from our Grace Greeter volunteer program and community members, in addition to those who helped to put this event together over the past several months. The colorful and imaginative running shirt design created and donated by Jake Waite, a student at Leland & Gray Union High School was a big hit, and we also extend special thanks to the participants who collected pledges that go to support patient care at this great community hospital.
The event will be held on May 10, 2014, at 8:30 am and we look forward to welcoming even more participants.
