DOVER- Madeline R. Mitchell, 78, of Rutherfordton, NC, died Monday, May 6, at Pardee Memorial Hospital in Hendersonville, NC. A native of New York, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Elsie Case. She was a member of the Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church where she was an ordained and current serving Elder, was a circle leader at the church, and also a leader of the Presbyterian Women. Mrs. Mitchell was the innkeeper at the historic West Dover Inn in Vermont from 1984 to 1995.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Donald Mitchell, two sons, Douglas Mitchell and wife Dolores, of Williamsville, NY, Glenn Mitchell, of Adams Center, NY, two grandchildren Caitlin and Gregory Mitchell, and one sister, Audrey Lichtwald, of Sayville, NY.

A memorial service will be held at Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church at 2 pm, Saturday, May 18, with the Rev. Dr. Don Scofield officiating. Visitation will follow the memorial service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church, PO Box 1133, Rutherfordton, NC 28139. Online registry at www mcmahansfuneralhome.com.
