MIDDLETOWN, CT- John William Mahon Sr., 75, of Rocky Hill and Middletown (formerly of Hartford and Ellington) died surrounded by his family at the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center on November 25.

Mr. Mahon was born and grew up in Valley Stream, NY. Mr. Mahon served in the Coast Guard Reserve for a number of years. He graduated from Bryant College in 1958 with a business degree. Mr. Mahon worked in many sales jobs including Mattel, Milton Bradley, Travelers, and Bill Savitt’s Jewelers. Volunteer activities included Knights of Columbus, Middletown Senior Center, Hartford Hospital, and numerous area churches.

Mr. Mahon was predeceased by his cherished friend and traveling companion of over 25 years, Alan Cobham, his parents, James and Alice Gaffney, and sister, Alice.

Mr. Mahon leaves his sons, John and wife Sue, of Ellington, Joseph and wife Jollene, of West Dover, VT, and daughters, Patty and husband Andy Daigle, of East Granby;,and Nancy Wilcock and husband Barry, of Rocky Hill.

He leaves his grandchildren, Brian and girlfriend Chelsie, Meghan Wilcock, Julia and Mary Daigle, Alice and William Mahon, and James and Jillian Mahon. Mr. Mahon also leaves his former wife Patricia Mahon, of Vernon, and brother James Mahon Jr., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life Mass will be held on December 7, at 12 pm, at Holy Family Retreat Center, 303 Tunxis Road, West Hartford. Friends may gather with the family at a luncheon following the Mass. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Ron Foley Foundation (to fight pancreatic cancer) or the Alzheimers Association.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hartford Hospital and Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center for their compassion and care.
