Mr. Whiteside was born in New York City on September 24, 1928, the son of Christopher and Thelma Whiteside. He attended local schools and then joined the US Coast Guard and then the US Navy, becoming a proud veteran of WWII, serving as a member of the Seabees and aviation wing. Upon his discharge he worked in the airline and travel industry and was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce. While living in New York, Mr. Whiteside was very active involved in the Kiwanis Club and the chamber of commerce, helping individuals and communities. He was an avid reader and enjoyed learning about history, current events and politics. He enjoyed all sports and in his college years he competed in track and field. He also enjoyed his home and spending time with his family. Mr. Whiteside is survived by his wife, Ruth, whom he married 56 years ago in New York in 1958, sons Bill and Ken, and three wonderful grandchildren Anna, Erik, and James who filled him with great pride and happiness every day.
Remembrance services will be held on Friday, March 21, between 11 am and 1 pm at the Covey-Allen & Shea Funeral Home, Wilmington.
