KEY LARGO, FL- After being given a 16-month gift of time, John Dittrich, 76, died surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, January 2, in Key Largo. He was born and raised in Queens, NY; served in the US Army; and, after 22 years, retired from the New York Police Department as a sergeant in 1981. He was a lifetime member of the NYC Sergeant Benevolent Association, Retired Sergeant Association as well as a member of the NYS Fraternal Order of Police. In 1974 he bought a home in West Dover, where he enjoyed both winter and summer activities very much.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Virginia; his sisters Dorothy Dittrich and Joan Graetz and husband Walter, and sisters-in-law Dorothy Cichocki and Carolyn McNamara. Also surviving are his many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, along with many longtime friends, all of whom he loved dearly.

He was predeceased by his parents John and Agneita Dittrich, sister Eleanor Barrack and her husband George, and two nephews.

Final arrangements are pending for a memorial to be held in his hometown of West Dover.
