To the Editor,

The Twin Valley boys varsity soccer team made history this season. The statistics speak for themselves. Congratulations to the truest team I have ever witnessed. Yes, their skills were top-notch, but it takes the highest level of commitment, determination, courage, and mindfulness to play like they did every game.

And not to mention that off the field, each player had to excel academically to maintain the privilege to be a part of the team.

But it is the display of sportsmanship that should make our team, our school, and our community proud. Every player consistently displayed respect, compassion, and fellowship - not only toward their own teammates but also for their competitors. They always played a fair game. Their respect for authority and self-control, even when a potentially “bad call” was made by an official, seemed to fuel their persistence to win and their determination to do it right.

Hats off to coach Buddy Hayford - coaching his 500th game this season. It is his leadership that yields players of this caliber and results of this magnitude. The team captains, Colin Lozito, Eli Park, and Cade Nesbitt, directed the mission of every game. These team front-runners lead by example on and off the field.

This superior crew built an assembly of fans that came out to enjoy watching the boys play their game. At the final championship match and the subsequent victory parade on Saturday the show of community support was overwhelming. Thanks to Wilmington, Whitingham, and West Dover fire departments, Deerfield Valley Rescue, and Greenes Servicenter for the loudest celebration parade ever.

Most of all – Thanks, Twin Valley gents, for putting Twin Valley on the map and for representing your school and your community with such elegance and integrity. Cheers to each of you!

Go (t)win valley!
