A winning logo was selected at last week’s board meeting from contest submissions. The winning logo was designed by Adam Lemire, an architect with LineSync Architecture in Wilmington. The committee received several entries and chose Lemire’s design for both its abstract and literal qualities.
The designer’s description of the logo is as follows: The logo is an abstract map of the downtown. The logo juxtaposes the two defining physical features of the village, the Deerfield River and the main intersection. The logo is represented by a circular area that represents the designated downtown as a cohesive whole with a common purpose. The circle with the tilted axis, based on an actual tilt in the intersection, relays a sense of movement and forward momentum. Rather than being a static entity, Wilmington Works will help move the town forward.
Wilmington Works co-chair John Gannon says, “As Adam’s design demonstrates, the confluence of roads and river make the Wilmington downtown area a unique setting. It also symbolizes to me that Wilmington is at a crucial crossroads. The way forward will not be always easy but the problems can be solved, and will be solved, if there is unity, cooperation, and consensus.”
Another initiative for this summer is a series of events aimed at drawing people to the downtown on Saturdays. Most events will take place at 4 pm and the series is being called “9&100@4” referring to both the location and time of the events. The events are sponsored by both the town of Wilmington and the Wilmington Fund VT, through a grant intended to exhibit downtown Wilmington as a vibrant spot for shopping, dining, and gathering this summer.
The first event is this Saturday, July 13, at 4 pm in the River Bank Park. Multi-instrumentalist Jeff Potter will play for 90 minutes.
His diverse repertoire encompasses songs bent on getting listeners to jump out of their seat as well as soulful, tender ballads. He’s recorded more than 40 of his songs with releases on Nervous, Fury and Raucous Records in England, El Toro Records in Spain and Dynamite Records in the United States.
Wilmington Works was established as the designated downtown organization after the town received the designation in May.
The Wilmington Fund VT acts as the 501(c)(3) for the organization. Wilmington Works’ mission is to build, improve and support a vital downtown that benefits the entire Wilmington community.
