To the Editor,

The fifth annual Lt. Mark H. Dooley 5K Race of Remembrance is fast approaching. Scheduled for Saturday, September 21, at the Twin Valley High School, the event is a living tribute which honors the memory of Lt. Mark H. Dooley, a former Wilmington police officer and Vermont Army National Guard soldier who was killed in action while deployed to Iraq on September 19, 2005.

The success of this annual event is owed largely to the generosity and compassion of many local businesses. We are presently seeking additional sponsors for this year’s race. Event sponsors are proudly displayed on the race T-shirt and event website, and recognized on race day.

The proceeds of the event support the Lt. Mark Dooley Memorial Fund. The Lt. Mark Dooley Memorial Fund keeps Mark Dooley’s memory alive by offering a scholarship annually to a graduating student of the Twin Valley High School, supporting special veteran and troop support organizations, and donating money to the Twin Valley High School athletics programs. A portion of the proceeds are set aside to cover the cost of a local memorial.

Visit for sponsorship forms and event information. Please call (603) 856-5220 for additional information. Sponsorships must be received no later than August 30 as we need to place the T-shirt order. Additionally, please contact us if you would like to volunteer at the event.

Special thanks to our current 2013 sponsors: Valley View Saloon, Chelsea Royal Diner, Palmiter Realty Group, Mid Island Collision, Meg Streeter Real Estate, Brattleboro Retreat, Tommy’s Pizzeria, Trust Company of Vermont, Aiken Software and Consulting, Cady & Dugan, P.C., Chimney Hill Real Estate, Sonny’s Cup n’ Saucer, Rolling Thunder VT1, Guy E. Nido, and Mount Snow.
