READSBORO- Daniel Robert Scaia, 69, of 6934 Main Street, died Thursday, March 28, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. While he faced much adversity, he always maintained a positive outlook on life. He was born in North Adams, MA, on April 6, 1943, son of Reno and Ida (Marchegiani) Scaia. He attended schools in Readsboro and graduated from the former St. Joseph’s High School in North Adams in 1961. Mr. Scaia served in the Vermont Army National Guard for six years. He was last employed by National Grid and the former New England Power Co. in Monroe, MA. He was a communicant of St. Joachim’s Church in Readsboro. He was a member of Post #29 American Legion in Readsboro and the Trentino Society. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was especially proud of his two grandchildren. His wife was the former Linda M. Lawson, who died on June 1, 2004. They were married on July 30, 1966. Survivors include one daughter, Laureen Mathon, and her husband Michael, of Shelburne, and two grandchildren, Claire and Daniel Mathon.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. Scaia will be celebrated on Saturday April 6, at noon at St. Joachim’s Church. Burial will be later in the spring in Village Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
