Hernon grew up in Gurteen, Co Sligo, Ireland, also known as Coleman Country, after the great fiddle player Michael Coleman. One of the best parts of the country at the time to see and hear some of traditional musicians, singers and dancers, Mai was steeped in the very best of the music.
Hernon has three albums of traditional songs on the market and she has toured Ireland, England, Europe and now America. She has performed with some of the top artists in Ireland, such as Dervish, members of Kila, Seamie O’Dowd, Dolores Keane, Len Graham and many others. She has conducted workshops in traditional singing and set-dancing at many festivals in Europe and America.
She now tours with her husband McEvilley as the duo Celtic Font and she is front singer with her all female traditional band called “Beeswing.” She loves to tell stories with and about her songs. Hers is a living tradition, and she loves to share it with anyone who is interested.
