Wilmington- St. Mary’s in the Mountains presents its second annual Red Door Community Carol Sing on December 16, beginning at 3:30 pm. All are welcome to join the entire community to celebrate the season, singing traditional carols and seasonal favorites (some done in less traditional ways), along with musical performances by Deerfield Valley musicians. Holiday treats and some surprises are in store, including a special visitor from the far, far North.

The event will support Deerfield Valley Rescue, which since 1974 has provided pre-hospital emergency medical care to residents in this area. Its two full-time employees and approximately 25 volunteers staff ambulances 24 hours a day, and provide critical, time-sensitive help to our friends and neighbors. DVR needs our help, too, with its relocation to its new home on Route 100.

The red doors will open at 3:15 pm, with snacks, hot cider, and other treats available. Starting at 3:30, guests will be entertained by a wide range of singers, pianists, and other musicians. Among the performers will be Robin Matathias’ flute ensemble, Bob and Flaminia Zeman, the St. Mary’s Chime Choir, and a women’s chorus offering French carols.

Beginning at 4 pm, the audience will be invited to join in, sharing tunes which have been part of the season for as long as anyone remembers—with a few new ones which will become favorites. They’ll be accompanied by area musicians including Ned Wilson, Sue Maddern, and Deb Canedy, and lyric books will help everyone participate. Interspersed between the songs will be short performances by valley musicians offering a wide variety of musical styles.

In addition, hot drinks, gingerbread, cookies, and other treats will be available.

Admission is by free will donation and all proceeds will go to Deerfield Valley Rescue.

The event is at 13 East Main Street.
