Vice chair Vicki Capitani said she had concerns about the rising costs of the town’s health care plans.
“I’m inclined to keep funding 100% of (silver plan) premiums as we have in the past,” said Capitani. “My biggest concern is the HRA contribution by the town. If we keep the out-of-pocket limit at $1,250 for singles and $2,500 for all others, the town is looking at a 13.2% increase on HRA on top of 7.7% premium funding. That’s a hefty note for the town. I’m not saying I’m not supportive of keeping everything but I am concerned about where this is going.”
Capitani suggested that the board consider raising the out-of-pocket limits to $1,500 for singles and $3,000 for all others. “If we don’t do anything it’s a 21% funding increase for the town because of the HRA,” said Capitani.
Ultimately, a motion was introduced to fund premiums at 100% and adopt Capitani’s suggested out of pocket limit increases. The motion passed with Capitani, Baltrus, and board member Joe Mahon voting in the affirmative. Chair Josh Cohen voted against.
Neratko addressed the board after a lengthy discussion about bi-town economic development efforts. Neratko said he thinks the town should conduct a survey about the economic development priorities of the community.
Neratko said one priority that may come to light in such a survey may be an event coordinator who could assist the business community. “A lot of the business community would like to see more events in town but they don’t have the capacity to put them out,” said Neratko. “Whether it’s an ancillary group through the chamber or hiring someone who can coordinate events, there has been a lot of discussion about it.”
Baltrus officially tendered his resignation. Baltrus informed the board in October that he intended to move out of the area.
The board solicited letters of interest for appointment to fill out Baltrus’ term, which is up in March. The board received letters of interest from Sandy MacDougall, Eddie Barber, and Baliotti. Jim Desrochers initially expressed interest but withdrew his name from consideration.
The board voted by paper ballot and appointed Baliotti to the seat. He will join the board at its next meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, November 21.
