Mary D. Jillson
WHITINGHAM- Mary D. Jillson, 75, a resident of Burrington Hill Road, in Whitingham, died Monday, May 5, at her home.
Mrs. Jillson was born in Whitingham on March 25, 1933, the daughter of David and Carrie (Pitcher) Dix. She received her education in Whitingham schools and graduated from Whitingham High School class of 1952.
Mrs. Jillson worked for Woodshapes for two years and ran her own day care for about 10 years. She was very active in the Ladies Benevolent Society, helping with cooking, rummage sales, and white elephant sales and was also a member of the Community Church of Whitingham. She cherished spending time with her family, especially her son and grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, making receiving blankets for babies, crocheting, and embroidering. She knitted sweaters, hats, and mittens for R.S.V.P. in Brattleboro.
Mrs. Jillson is survived by her husband Carl W. “Butch” Jillson III, of Whitingham, whom she married at their home on January 23, 1982; her son, Ronald Colburn, of Whitingham; her daughters, Juanita Stewart and her husband Robert, of Whitingham, and Teri Colburn, of Palm Harbor, FL; her brother Sanford Dix, of Whitingham; her sister, Elsie Reynolds, of Brattleboro; her grandchildren, Jessie Stewart, Holly Cunningham, Matt Stewart, Marsha, Ashley, and Logan Sprague; and her great-granddaughter, Bailey Boyce. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Hollis Colburn, who died August 26, 1980; four brothers, Homer, Frank, John, and David Dix; and her sister Violet Hurd.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jillson will be held Friday, May 9, at 11 am, at the Community Church of Whitingham. Pastor John Brigham will conduct the service. Burial will follow in the family lot in Sadawga Cemetery in Whitingham. Visiting hours at Covey & Allen Funeral Home, 44 East Main Street, in Wilmington, will be held Thursday, May 8, from 6 to 8 pm, where the family will be in attendance.
